Cooper: Let’s Step Up and Create a Partnership with Developers

The Interaction Design Association (IxDA) held its first annual conference last month at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). While I did not attend, I’ve been watching some of the talks from the conference via Perpetual Productions on Brightcove. One of the most inspiring talks at the conference was by Alan Cooper (author of The Inmates are Running the Asylum, the book that introduced using personas as design tools). Cooper is one of the many people in the usability field that can talk for nearly an hour and hold my attention. In his talk at IxDA ’08, he attacks the importance of being first to market and calls for the interaction design community to create a better partnership with developers in order to be more efficient.

It’s easier said than done to change the way a corporation operates. Cooper’s advice may seem obvious, but it needs to be taken seriously in order to ensure success and continued innovation.
