Man Takes Crowbar to Home Depot Self-Checkout System

Home Depot Self-Checkout (pic from Hamedog on Flickr)A man tried to use self-checkout system to purchase a crowbar, and ended up taking the crowbar to the machine after it started speaking Spanish to him (Seattlepi.com). The scene of the crime was a Home Depot in Seattle, and he caused $10,000 in damage. He left the crowbar behind.

That’s probably only a fraction of the money Home Depot has lost due to the horrible systems they have in place. Better systems would lead to having to employ fewer, but happier employees (and you wouldn’t have to make signs like this). In turn, customers would be happy due to the efficient process. However, Home Depot would lose money on impulse purchases while waiting in line.

The crowbar man speaks for me, and a number of Home Depot customers/employees that have put up with system. Thank you, crowbar man. And while I’m at it, thank you German guy that threw his computer out the window this summer.

(Thanks to NPR’s Wait Wait….Don’t Tell Me September 8th show for the hilarious discussion on this story).
