A Real Usability Emergency: Toddler Served Margarita!

A toddler was served a margarita instead of apple juice at an Applebees in the San Francisco bay area. The mix-up happened because Applebees stores its margarita mix and apple juice mix in “identical plastic bottles.” This usability problem will be corrected, according to the article.

The mother of the child was not going to complain about the mix-up until her 2 year-old fell ill and had to be rushed to the hospital.

With advances in technology, it is becoming more and more unlikely that things like this will happen because of human error. Most likely, the cause will be a design error (as we have seen with numerous plane crashes). So, if you are served root beer instead of soda, please complain! There is most likely a usability issue at the root of the problem.
