Twitter, Twitteroo, Twitterrific!
Twitter is the latest craze on the Internet, from the same people who brought us Odeo. The premise of Twitter is that you are constantly answering one simple question: “What are you doing?” It seems everybody has their own description of what Twitter is. I see it as live blogging; it is somewhere between the realm of instant messaging and blogging. In the world of IM, one doesn’t take a long time to craft their message. When blogging, one usually takes a lot of time to create their post.
Twitter is only valuable if you have a large enough network of friends using it. However, I also use Twitter to stay informed of updates to software (e.g. WordPress). Some people also use it to receive world news.
Is it here to stay? I think so. It’s hard to imagine Twitter having a business plan behind it though. Are they going to eventually send its users advertisements in the mix? Or, will they simply put ads on the site? I rarely use the site since I do my tweets on either Twitterrific (Mac) or Twitteroo (fabulous PC version created by friends from RIT). However, I think they could build up the social aspect of the site and build a bigger social network site (i.e. something similar to MySpace or Facebook) around it.
If you’re on Twitter, let’s be friends.
