Get Firefox 2.0–Yes, that means you.

Firefox 2

It makes me cringe when people are using Internet Explorer. At this point, there is no reason at all. IE6 currently has 19 reported unpatched security holes, and Firefox has only 3. Meanwhile, there has already been a security hole discovered in IE7.

I probably do not have to blog about this at all, but I just wanted to make sure everyone has downloaded and is using the latest version of Mozilla’s Firefox Web browser. Users of Firefox 1.x won’t notice too many differences, but the new browser is faster and sports a new, more user-friendly design. For example, the tabs now have a visual depth effect (so it is easy to tell which tab is in focus) and the search box in the top-right is larger and it is more apparent that search engines can be changed. I also really like the in-line spellchecker which is great for blogging.

It really surprises me when I see people using IE. Amber MaCarthur mentioned on Inside the Net, that she made sure she was using Firefox when doing reports for CityNews, because using IE would make her look uneducated and she would not be respected. And that is very, very true. I can’t believe it when I see someone in my graduate courses using IE. Everyone should be using Firefox or Opera, and I would expect all people in the IT/usability field to have switched from IE at least one year ago, hopefully two or three.
