Gatemen of Cape League Ready for Next Season

Out of all the teams in the Cape League, the Wareham Gatemen are the first to have their 2007 roster online. Yes, there are eight months, three weeks, fall and spring season baseball, a Major League Baseball draft, and a Cape Cod winter to go through before CCBL ’07, and Wareham has already posted a preliminary roster and renovated their infield.

The Gatemen roster will see many changes before next season. Half of their initial roster has returnees. If anything, I just hope Beamer Weems (Baylor) returns in 2007 to the Cape. Talk about having a baseball name.

Thank you for recognizing the 2007 roster and other features on the Wareham Gatemen website. We work hard as an organization to keep our followers, parents, scouts and players up to date and the website is the single source for providing that information.

One note…Joel Collins will not be with the Gatemen this upcoming season. We have three catchers that we are excited about on our current roster. Robert Lara from LSU played in Wareham last year and is returning. Additionally, we have Buddy Munroe from Clemson and Russ Moldenhauer from the University of Texas joining the Gatemen. Joel was a very popular and talented player for the Gatemen and will certainly be missed.

Thanks for the comment, Scott! It is very nice to have Cape League websites updated in the off-season, and I certainly appreciate all the work that you have done with the Gatemen.

The initial roster looks great and I am looking forward to crossing the bridge next year. My best memory from Cape ’06 is sitting in the left-field bleachers in the last inning of the Cotuit playoff series (and during the power outage). I was sitting with some of the Cotuit interns that had their cars packed and were at times rooting for their team and at other times hoping they didn’t have to work the next day (and of course, they didn’t).
