Eric Hinske Traded to Boston

The Red Sox have reportedly acquired 2002 American League Rookie of the Year Eric Hinske. Boston will pick up $4.2 million of Hinske’s $7 million salary. In addition to the salary relief, the Blue Jays will receive a minor league player to be named later.

There is no mention of the trade on RedSox.com so I would still take this news with a grain of salt. If the rumor is true, then this may mean a permanent move for Mike Lowell to right field. It could also mean they would stick Eric Hinske in right field. However, both Lowell and Hinske have never played a major league game in the outfield. In any case, this trade probably means the Red Sox have little faith in the return of the injured Trot Nixon.

Eric Hinske was a 1997 member of the Hyannis Mets in the Cape Cod Baseball League. Two of his teammates were Eric Byrnes (Arizona Diamondbacks) and Scott Proctor (New York Yankees).

EDIT: It is true: Eric Hinske is on the Sox.
