Net Neutrality, Senator Kerry, and Senator Ted Stevens

Net neutrality is a good thing. Without it, Internet Service Providers (ISPs–such as Comcast and Verizon) would be able to charge websites (such as Google or Yahoo!) money to allow for their sites to be accessed faster (or at all) by their customers. To learn more, I would encourage you to watch this Rocketboom video podcast episode and visit SavetheInternet.com.

As a resident of Massachusetts, I am very proud of Senator Kerry’s stance on net neutrality and his recent blog entry on SavetheInternet.com. I would encourage you to visit the Senate Map on Save the Internet and make sure your senators are in favor of net neutrality. And if not, send them a letter. Some senators have not done the research, or do not even understand the Internet and need to be informed. One such senator is Republican Ted Stevens.

Senator Stevens became famous recently for calling the Internet “a series of tubes.” Listen to his speech on net neutrality by listening to this MP3. This should scare you. As a result of this speech, Mr. Stevens has been mocked by this hilarious slideshow, a techno remix of his speech, and a song entitled “series of tubes”.
