Screen Spanning Doctor, Software for PowerPC iBooks, iMacs and eMacs
Today I made one of the greatest discoveries in the history of being a Mac user: Screen Spanning Doctor. The software is for unlocking external display features and preferences, and is for certain model iBooks, iMacs and eMacs only. Do not use this software if your model is not listed on the site. It works beautifully with my iBook.
By default, one can only mirror their desktop with an external display device. Screen Spanning Doctor supports both mirrored and extended desktop mode! My configuration uses a 12″ 1.33GHz iBook set at 1024×768 with a Gateway FPD2185 21″ HD monitor set as an extended desktop to a resolution of 1680×1050.
The only negative that I have read about is that applications on your Mac will remember which display device they were on. For example, if you have iTunes running on your external device and unplug the device then you will not be able to get iTunes back to the Mac’s desktop unless you plug the external monitor in again and drag it back. So remember to move applications back to your desktop when you are done!
