Apple’s Fun New Products–What Really Happened

Well, I was a little too optimistic in my post below. But, I was right about the new Mac Mini, which Apple released right at the beginning of the Keynote. Unfortunately, the Mac Mini is priced pretty heavily at $599 for the 1.5ghz Intel Core Solo and $799 for the 1.66ghz Intel Core Duo.

The other big release was the iPod Hi-Fi, which essentially is a boombox for the iPod. The Hi-Fi will most likely kill the popular Bose Sounddock, especially since the Sounddock is not meant for the outdoors.

Also released were leather cases for the iPod. But, priced at $99/each, these will be a very hard sell. Overall, it was a dissapointing keynote, and I expected more from Apple. If I had my own place and a large TV, I might consider the new Mac Mini. But, the new Mac Mini is not a DVR, because it does not have video inputs. Oh well.
