Apple’s Fun New Products–My Predictions!

Today Apple is hosting yet another event releasing new products. The press invitation said “come see some fun new products”. CNN/Money has their own predictions, and here are mine:

Apple will start the event applauding the one billionth song sold on iTunes. After the first announcement (below), they will set a goal for the billionth video!

1. iTunes Movie Store: Apple always starts their presentations with software updates. An iTunes Movie Store announcement would follow in that tradition. Full-length movies will be higher resolution so that they can be played on a TV. All Pixar movies will be available today.

2. Wi-Fi Enabled iPods: Why should people have to own a computer to have an iPod? Apple will enable Wi-Fi in the 5G iPods so that people can buy content right from their iPod in Starbucks.

3. Wi-Fi Attachment for Old iPods: It won’t be pretty, but Apple might have a Wi-Fi attachment ready for older iPod models, similar to the iTrip and the FM remote.

4. Airport Express with AirVids: The Airport Express with AirTunes hasn’t been updated in forever. It would fit right in with the presentation if Apple released a new version of the Airport Express with video streaming.

One More Thing…

5. The Intel Mac Mini with DVR: The Mac Mini is long overdue for an update, and a video-themed Apple event would be the perfect opportunity to release a new one. The new Mac Mini will be marketed as a living room computer with DVR (digital video recording) capability.

What We Won’t See Today:

1. True iPod Video: I don’t think a new iPod will be released. It is not due for an update and the patents on a widescreen touch-screen iPod are relatively new. Instead, the 5G iPod will be upgraded with Wi-Fi.

2. New iBook: The iBook is long overdue for an update, but it won’t be today. The iBook would not fit in the video “fun” theme.

3. iPhone: According to rumor, Apple is working on their own cell phone which will also work with iTunes. Good idea, and I’m sure we’ll see it sometime, but not today.

What ThinkSecret Says:

1. iPod “Hi-Fi Boombox”: ThinkSecret is claiming they have reliable sources that say an Apple iPod Speaker System will be released. Of course, I do not know who their sources are, but I also cannot fit this boombox into my prediction list. But, yes it would fit under the “fun new products” bubble and I would not be surprised to see it.
