Gmail Out of Beta!

GmailGoogle’s free e-mail service, Gmail, was released out of beta early this week. This means that anyone can sign up for the service without being invited. It filters spam very well, makes one’s e-mail easily searchable, and users get 2.5gb (and growing) of storage.

In related Google news, the beta of Google Talk was released last week. While the program has limited features, it provides superior audio quality when compared to programs like Skype. It also allows for instant messenging, unlike other VOIP programs. However, currently only Google account holders can only talk to other Google account holders and everyone must be using a Windows machine.

EDIT: Gmail is still in beta, but you can sign up via cellphone instead of having to be invited.
