Manny Being Manny

Manny RamirezThe trade deadline has passed and Manny Ramirez is still on the Red Sox after a week of trade rumors. Manny said it best himself today after the game: “‘Manny being Manny,’ he’s great man… this is the place for me… I’m back!”.

Earlier last week, Manny asked to be traded. Of course, this was not the first time Manny asked to be traded… it was about the third. The Red Sox even put Manny on irrevocable waivers after the 2003 season, so that any team could pick him (and his contract) up without a trade.

My opinion on this? I think that Manny craves attention like a child. He is a great hitter, there is no doubt, but it seems like he needs to feel special. Just like a toddler who will fall down when people are looking, and cry when they are not, Manny knocked in the game winning run yesterday and asked to be traded earlier last week. But, we need him here in Boston, or else we’re not going to succeed in the post-season. So, I just hope that yesterday’s standing ovation will keep Manny here for at least the rest of the year and maybe next.
