March of the Penguins

March of the PenguinsIt’s not everyday there’s a documentary without Michael Moore in theaters alongside the money-raking summer hits. But, Warner Independent Pictures has another movie getting rave reviews this summer (last summer’s movie being Before Sunset), and it is March of the Penguins.

Personally, I think penguins are the funniest creatures on Earth and I think that is part of the reason for this movie’s success. If you film penguins for hours and hours, something hilarious is bound to happen! The documentary is narrated by Morgan Freeman (who also narrates War of the Worlds) and follows the Emperor penguins on their journey to their breeding ground at the South Pole. Love, tragedy, and triumph are all encountered on the journey.

This movie is unfortunately overrated a little bit, but is still worth seeing. It is not as educational as it could be (it has a G rating, after all), but is very interesting because it shows us part of the world we have never seen. I would recommend at least renting this on DVD.

My Rating: 4 out of 5
