Reaction to All-Star Rosters
Well, as usual, the All-Star rosters are in, and there are a few things I don’t agree with.
Let’s start with the AL. I was 4/9 on the starting lineup, and 8/9 of my votes got on the team. I’m glad to see four Red Sox in the starting lineup (Varitek, Manny, Damon, and Ortiz)… but, I don’t think it’s really a good sign that the Sox have no pitchers on the team. Matt Clement really deserved a spot on the team, but I understand that it’s hard to get a representative from every team a spot. Who doesn’t deserve a spot on the team? Well, the standout for me (and probably everyone else) is Kenny Rogers. A guy who attacks a cameraman does not belong on an All-Star squad.
Moving on to the NL… I was 3/8 on the starting lineup, and 4/8 of my votes got on the team. All of the players I voted for that didn’t make the team are on the disabled list. These players are Milton Bradley, Clint Barmes, Ramon Hernandez, and Chipper Jones. I am mostly dissapointed with Mike Piazza (batting .264) earning the starting catcher role on the team. I think Paul LoDuca (the NL backup catcher) deserves the spot more than him. I also don’t really understand Scott Rolen (batting .250) earning the start at 3B. I would have started Aramis Ramirez, and maybe even put Joe Randa on the team instead of Rolen.
MLB’s Final Vote is now underway. I would encourage votes for Hideki Matsui (yes, I am a Red Sox fan) and Billy Wagner.
