My National League All-Stars

Ramon Hernandez, PadresC: Ramon Hernandez, Padres
The former Athletics All-Star catcher is now in the NL for his second season and showing success. He is flying under the radar of many All-Star voters (even I almost missed him), so I wouldn’t be surprised to see Paul LoDuca earn the starting spot as catcher.

1B: Derrek Lee, Cubs
Derrek has always been a great player. He’s a gold glove first baseman, but he has never hit for average. This year he has nearly the best average in the league and will be headed to his first All-Star game.

2B: Jeff Kent, Dodgers
Kent is going for his ninth straight season with over 20 homeruns… and he’s almost there already! He’s one of the best players in Major League Baseball right now and will be making his fifth All-Star appearance.

SS: Clint Barmes, Rockies
Barmes leads the majors in average right now. If he can continue to hit for the rest of May, he will most likely get votes at shortstop and make his first All-Star appearance. The only thing that could keep him off would be his eight errors already on the season.

3B: Chipper Jones, Braves
It’s been several years since Chipper last attended the mid-summer classic, but he’ll most likely be there this year. He has an OBP of .464 and seven HRs.

OF: Bobby Abreu, Phillies
Representing the Phils again this year will be Abreu, especially with the gaps in the outfield generated by the absence or lack of performance by the perennial power hitters (Bonds, Edmonds, and Berkman to name a few).

OF: Milton Bradley, Dodgers
Maybe an All-Star bid will cool Milton down for the rest of the season. He’s been putting up some great numbers.

OF: Miguel Cabrera, Marlins
With a batting average of .373, Miguel will also get one of my NL outfielder votes.
