Schill Lands on DL
Just when I thought everything would be ok, Curt Schilling is going to be placed on the 15-day DL with an ankle injury, supposedly unrelated to last year’s (so it’s probably not a good time to mention http://www.bobbleankle.com/). This makes a 2005 All-Star appearance unlikely for him, and puts the Red Sox in an interesting situation. The team will probably try to get away with a four-man rotation of Clement, Arroyo, Wakefield and Halama. Arroyo, however, is facing a possible suspension for the Tampa Bay beanball game. Halama will probably have to take Schill’s spot on Saturday. The team will probably bring up another pitcher from AAA Pawtucket… maybe Abe Alvarez or Jeremi Gonzalez. (EDIT: In a somewhat surprising move, the Sox called up rookie reliever Tim Bausher from AAA Pawtucket. This means the only active Sox with over 60 started games each are Halama, Arroyo, Wakefield and Clement).
The pressure is now on Wade Miller to return from the DL. Pitching coach Dave Wallace wants Miller to start twice at AAA Pawtucket before returning. Miller is scheduled to make his first PawSox apperance tomorrow.
