Well Well Wells

Red Sox southpaw David Wells is going to miss a month of action due to spraining his right foot. Southpaw John Halama will be moving up to the rotation and starting next Tuesday at Detroit. This means that Wells can kiss any potential all-star appearance goodbye, and Halama finally gets a chance to start for a run-producing team.

Meanwhile, Wade Miller is rehabbing with the AA Portland Sea Dogs and according to Redsox.com, is two rehab starts away from rejoining the Sox.

What does it all mean? It means that Terry Francona has a little easier job than he originally envisioned in selecting the rotation. It also means that everyone is happy for now (except for David Wells). If an injury to the rotation happened to the Sox during the season last year, we would have to hunt for a person to start, or start pitchers on short rest. This team is still in good shape and has more depth than last year’s World Champion squad.
