Better Start Using XQuery

It looks like XQuery usage may be more widespread than most people think. A new study by DataDirect claims that “52% of XML developers have already started working with XQuery in the last 12 months and another 33% have plans to start using XQuery in 2005″. The study seems to confirm DataDirect’s hypothesis that people are seeking easier alternatives for “querying, manipulating and transforming XML data”. Does this spell the end for XSLT? Can everything that can be done in XSLT be done with XQuery? XML.com compared them recently and found that they are very similar (after all, they’re both based on XPath 2.0). Yet, developers seem to currently prefer XSLT.

So I guess it’s time to get started with XQuery.
