Keepin’ the Fens
The Boston Red Sox are not asking for or receiving any city funding for upgrades to Fenway Park, but they will be playing in the park indefinitely. This comes as no surprise to some Sox fans like me, since Fenway Park has seen constant renovations the past few years (green monster seats, right field roof restaurant, right field concourse, the Ted Williams statue, and the .406 club seats this off-season). But, still, it’s a nice assurance.
What I’m most interested in is what improvements they are going to make in the future. Here are the highlights from that article about potential improvements:
improvements to the Fenway stop on the MBTA’s Green Line and a new commuter rail stop…
a garage in the area to accommodate daily commuters that would also provide parking for Red Sox fans during night and weekend games…
improvements to streets and sidewalks, a cleanup of the Muddy River, and a commitment that the park will be protected from encroachment by high-rise buildings that would block fans’ view of the skyline and cast shadows over the field…
new restaurants and a sports museum or hall of fame at Fenway Park…
Since I usually take the T to Fenway, I’d most like to see the MBTA improvements, then the encroachment for no-new high rise buildings, and then the street improvements… The sports museum or hall of fame would also be nice, but we do have the New England Sports Museum already.
