Web Usability: People Don’t Read Everything
A new article posted on Earthweb details web usability and how people perceive web pages. The article summarizes basic findings of studies that have been conducted. For example, studies have found that web pages are scanned and not read. Therefore, I think short sentences and lists are highly valuable. Read the article if you want some basic tips for web design or want to learn more about web usability.
Eyetracking is also discussed in the article with a photograph of a heatmap that shows what people look at the most. Studies at my school, RIT, are currently using eyetracking. My friend Chad Lapa is a research assistant in a current assignment with Xerox looking into banner ad effectiveness.
